FARMINGTON — After a four-day jury trial in federal court in Albuquerque, a Hogback man was found guilty Thursday of raping a woman in Shiprock.
Myron Jim Harry, 26, is facing up to life in prison because of his conviction, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales said in a prepared statement.
The assault happened in May 2010 at the end of a party at the Chaco River Apartments in Shiprock. It was the victim's birthday party, and the woman was asleep in a bedroom when witnesses said they saw Harry assault her.
His DNA was found on the victim.
Harry said in court that the sex was consensual, and the defense had an expert witness say there were no signs of sexual assault. The jury deliberated for five hours before handing down a guilty verdict, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico.
