FARMINGTON — San Juan County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a 25-year-old Aztec man after a high-speed chase and helicopter search Monday night.
Derek Ferrier was arrested on suspicion of eluding an officer, as well as of being an out-of state fugitive. Additional charges from Bloomfield police are still pending, according to a sheriff's office news release.
At about 10 p.m. Monday, Ferrier fled from bail bondsmen along U.S. Highway 64 toward Bloomfield. According to police, he was driving a white Ford Focus with the headlights off, and he was hitting speeds of more than 100 mph.
Bloomfield police took up the case as Ferrier entered the city limits but lost sight of his car after he turned onto an unmarked dirt road.
The sheriff's helicopter was called out, and Ferrier was found hiding outside a house on Florida Street.
