FARMINGTON — A Farmington couple were arrested April 25 on suspicion of committing fraud using food stamps.
Anna Montano-Salas, 43, and her husband, Miguel Salas, 39, are accused of conspiring with customers to commit fraud against the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Fund, more commonly referred to as food stamps, according to a U.S. Immigration and Custom's Enforcement news release.
The couple allegedly would enter false transactions for food purchases using food stamps and then give half the money they were reimbursed with to the food stamp holder, according to the news release.
The alleged fraud lasted from April 4, 2012 to Dec. 4, 2012, according to federal court documents.
Salas, a Mexican citizen living in the United States illegally, is being held without bond pending trial. Montano-Salas was released on bond, according to the news release.
