FARMINGTON — Farmington police have arrested two men in connection to Saturday's fatal shooting at the Animas Valley Mall parking lot.

Alejandro Ramirez, 22, and his brother, Luis Ramirez, 28, have been arrested on suspicion of several charges.

Both brothers have been charged with an open count of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, discharge of a firearm at or from a motor vehicle, three counts of child abuse, tampering with evidence and aggravated assault, according to a Farmington police news release.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, Johnny Benjamin Vialpando, a 25-year-old Farmington man, was shot while he was a passenger in a vehicle parked at Animas Valley Mall in Farmington, according to police.

Vialpando died Saturday evening at San Juan Regional Medical Center.

The suspects fled in a vehicle after the shooting and were arrested minutes later by deputies from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office, said Farmington police Cpl. Russ Bradford.

Bradford said both suspects declined to speak to investigators and were booked into jail Saturday night.
