The Lady Panthers (17-5, 2-0 District 1-4A) defeated Kirtland Central (7-9, 0-2) 19-0 and 16-0 as pitcher Krissy Fortner allowed just two Lady Bronco hits in each game while throwing first-pitch strikes 80 percent of the time.
“I was glad to get a good start in district. Krissy did her job in the circle and, once again, our defense was solid,” said PV head coach Kevin Werth.
Fortner also got the scoring going in the first inning with an RBI-single.
The Lady Panther scored six runs in the third inning to break the game open and another eight in the fifth inning to definitively put the game away.
PV leadoff hitter Danielle Ortiz was 3-for-4 with three singles and four RBIs in the game.
Fortner also had four RBIs and a double in Game 1 while going 3-for-5 at the plate.
In Game 2, Susie Chandler belted a solo home run and a double as she racked up a game-high four RBIs.
Ortiz was 3-for-3 at the plate in Game 2 with three runs scored, a triple and an RBI.
Haley Parson, Breanna Salas and Fortner all added two RBIs in the win.
“I thought our kids stayed focused and worked at getting themselves better each at bat,” Werth said.
Erin Bitsuie earned the loss in the circle for Kirtland Central in Game 2 while Shiloh Lewis took the loss in Game 1.
Kirtland Central will play again next Friday at Aztec (18-4, 2-0) while Piedra Vista will host rival Farmington High (10-12, 0-2) at the Farmington Sports Complex for the Four Corners Fastpitch Association Youth Day.
“We will go back to work and prepare for Farmington High,” Werth said.
