The Farmington High tennis squads had a successful weekend with both the girls and boys teams picking up four victories.

The Lady Scorps defeated Los Alamos and Taos on Friday, then followed up with wins over West Mesa and Sandia on Saturday.

FHS had a tight 5-4 victory over Los Alamos with two players coming up with critical comebacks to help secure the win.

"It was the first time that we both had all of our varsity," said FHS head coach Pat McGrath. "Both teams stepped up and played some inspiring tennis."

Molly Merrion trailed in the first set of her No. 1 singles match 5-0 before coming back to win in a tiebreaker 7-6.

Merrion then closed out the match with a 6-2 second set.

Sydney Schumacher picked up a critical point in the match at No. 5 singles.

Schumacher trailed 5-4 in the third set of her match before winning the final three games to pull out a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win.

"Syd has turned into a very smart player with a ton of mental toughness," McGrath said.

The Lady Scorps beat Taos 7-2 and West Mesa 9-0 playing their No. 7-12 girls.

"These girls, if they played on another team, would qualify for state," McGrath said.

FHS also cruised by Sandia 7-0.

The Scorpion boys dominated their four matches, defeating Los Alamos (9-0), Taos (8-1), Cibola (5-0) and Sandia (7-2) on Friday and Saturday.

Nathan Pavlik, Matt With, Malcolm McGrath and Will Hall all went without losing a match during the weekend.

Pavlik and Chris Hunt also teamed up to go 4-0 in doubles, while With and Eli Briody-Pavlik went 3-0.

FHS will play Santa Fe Prep on Friday, then girls will play the Los Alamos Invite and the boys will play at the Espanola Invite on Saturday.
