Rain brought a screeching halt to the opening day of the Linda Crabtree Softball Challenge.
Only six games got in the books Friday at the Farmington Sports Complex before rain showers ended play in the middle of the 3 p.m. pool play games.
Piedra Vista has two plans in place to try to finish the tournament today. If the rain continues through the night and into the morning Saturday, games may be played at Bloomfield with each team being guaranteed two games Saturday, and the tournament would go from a bracket to a round robin.
If the weather clears, games may resume at 10 a.m. at the Farmington Sports Complex. If play is able to resume at the complex, the championship game would be moved from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with bracket play beginning at
Piedra Vista (1-0) was able to defeat Los Alamos 15-1 during a 9 a.m. game Friday.
Krissy Fortner pitched two innings and didn't give up a hit while striking out five of the six batters she faced before giving way to Tegan Woosley.
Jordan Montoya hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first for PV in her second trip to the plate in the inning.
Fortner was 2-2 at the plate while Susie Chandler was 1-2 with an RBI-double and two runs scored.
Alex Moreno went 2-2 with two RBIs while Tabor Woosley was 2-3 with two runs scored.
Bloomfield defeated Shiprock 10-2 on Friday and Shiprock also fell to St. Pius X 13-0.
Kirtland Central lost to Miyamura 18-1 while Los Alamos responded from its loss to PV with a 13-0 win over Grants.
Gallup also defeated Valley 7-6.
