The No. 4 Navajo Prep volleyball team had its state tournament cut short, losing in the quarterfinals to No. 3 Santa Rosa in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-18) Friday.
"We came out slow in all three games and had to play catchup," said Lady Eagles' head coach Rainy Crisp. "We didn't expect to be out this early. If we had played the way we played all season, then we'd still be in. They realize we can't have any bad games at state. Once a team gets that momentum, it's tough to come back even from a three-point deficit."
The Lady Eagles will lose three seniors off the team, but with the majority of players returning, Crisp will use the positive aspects of the season as building blocks for future success.
"We had some good things that happened this year — the district title, all-district players. We played well at times, but we'll expect to make a deeper run next year," she said.
