STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—Experts are warning that the Yampa and Elk rivers are dangerously cold for people who aren't equipped with whitewater gear as the rivers approach their peak flows.

The two rivers have surged since after afternoon temperatures rose into the 70s.

Barry Smith of Mountain Sports Kayak School tells Steamboat Today ( http://tinyurl.com/bz86ft8) a dunking in the Yampa right now for people not wearing dry suits could lead to hypothermia or worse.
