In the October 7th issue of The Daily Times, it was stated that Salvation Army did not receive its "typical funding" from San Juan United Way. This is inaccurate. Salvation Army is not a partner agency of United Way but did receive over $8,000 in designations from last year's annual campaign. All designations to Salvation Army through San Juan United Way's 2013 campaign will continue to go to the Salvation Army at 100%.
The Salvation Army and San Juan United Way partner on many community events including The Salvation Army's Christmas efforts and on the Emergency Food and Shelter program. San Juan United Way also donates in kind products for The Roof.
Salvation Army and San Juan United Way have met several times since Lieutenants' Bill and Cathy Simon's arrival to best see how we can collaborate on the needs of the community. San Juan United Way has not had requests for funding from Salvation Army for almost 20 years, but continues to work closely to meet the needs of San Juan County residents.
Salvation Army is seeking volunteers and food donations for the annual Thanksgiving lunch and for helping low income families with Christmas assistance. Please call 327-5117 if you would like to help.
