It has been four months since the multi-million dollar US 64 project has been opened to the Bloomfield community. I have strong concerns about the six-lane highway in Bloomfield. As a community member, I have experienced a difficult time trying to check my mail at the main post office. The medians are closing access to the post office and causing a scare to the Bloomfield community. It took them nearly two years to work on the highway to improve the growth of commercial and industrial traffic.

I have seen other community members coming from Farmington having to make a u-turn by Subway and head back west just to get to the post office. Another problem is when you are exiting the post office there is no left turn. That makes it difficult because you have to go across three lanes and make another u-turn. Fatal accidents have occurred on the new highway and yet we have not seen a change with the medians. Residents from Bloomfield are risking their lives to check mail due to making tight u-turns. My question is did the two-year construction on the highway improve the safety of the community or did it cause a deadly concern for the future?

Being that the post office is a federal building I think the city of Bloomfield needs to make changes to prevent any future auto accidents. This is not only my concern, but also a concern of Bloomfield residents who have been complaining consistently about these medians.

To fix this problem construction changes need to be made I would suggest doing away with the medians, to make it easier and safer to go right or left. I feel as a parent and a community member that this change could make a difference.
