FARMINGTON — The San Juan County Sheriff's Office has named a Farmington man a "person of interest" in the death of a Bloomfield woman.
Michael Graham, 40, was arrested Friday and later charged with possession of a firearm or destructive devices by a felon and two counts of tampering with evidence.
The sheriff's office said Graham is a "person of interest" in the slaying of Brandy Robinson.
Robinson, 29, was found stabbed to death in a rural area south of Farmington on June 22. The sheriff's office declined to release more information about the homicide, including where her body was found.
Robinson and Graham had a history of domestic violence, said San Juan County Sheriff's Office Capt. Brice Current.
Deputies searched Graham's truck on Friday morning with a search warrant that was being executed as part of the homicide investigation.
Graham is a convicted felon and deputies found ammunition and a homemade bomb tucked away in cubby hole in the truck, according to the affidavit for Graham's arrest. The Farmington Police Bomb Squad was called on to remove the bomb from Graham's truck. The tampering with evidence charge was filed because Graham tried to hide his homemade explosive, according to court documents.
Investigators also searched Graham's bedroom and found firearms. He was charged with two separate weapons charges, according to court documents.Graham was arrested late Friday night and made in his first court appearance on Monday in front of Magistrate Judge Barry Sharer.
His bond was set at $100,000 cash-only and he has two preliminary hearings set for July 11.Sharer said in court documents that Graham's criminal record, the nature of the charges and a potential threat to the community were the reason Graham was given a cash-only bond.
San Juan County Sheriff's Office Lt. Cory Tanner said the homicide investigation is ongoing and investigators are trying to obtain additional information about the case.Detectives have encountered uncooperative witnesses in the investigation, said Current. Other people have lied to investigators, he said.
"It's just sad that those who considered Brandy (Robinson) to be a friend will not come forward with details of her whereabouts at or before the time of her death, or the individual(s) responsible for this cowardly act of violence," Tanner said in a prepared statement. "Anyone involved in the cover-up or fabrication of alibis will be charged appropriately."
Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to call Detective Candice Montoya at 505-334-7049. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call San Juan County Crime Stoppers at 505-334-TIPS (8477).
Robinson had three children, who are 3, 5 and 9 years old, said Tammy Robinson, her mother.
She said there will be a memorial for her daughter at 3 p.m. at Kiwanis Park in Farmington.
"I don't know what to say. It's just hard right now because she was my baby," she said.
