Levi Alexander Diramontes, 32, and Crystal Diramontes, whose age is unknown, ditched their silver van and tried to hide in the hills north of Aztec, according to San Juan County Sheriff's Office Capt. Brice Current.
Levi Diramontes was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and aggravated fleeing. Crystal Diramontes was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Diramontes' both live on Southern Ute tribal land, and Crystal Diramontes is a member of the Southern Ute tribe. Both were booked at the San Juan County Detention Center outside of Farmington, though Crystal Diramontes no longer is at the detention center.
The detention center officials would not disclose why she had been released. Levi Diramontes still is in jail with a bond of $5,600, according center officials.
The San Juan County Sheriff's Office had been pursuing the couple after they sped out of Colorado. The La Plata County Sheriff's Office initially had pursued the two to the New Mexico state line and then canceled their pursuit.
The La Plata deputies had been chasing the pair after Crystal Diramontes' family called the Southern Ute tribal police.
The family saw Levi Diramontes pick up Crystal Diramontes, who had a restraining order against Levi Diramontes. The family thought he was going to kill her, Current said.
It is not known whether the couple ever has been married, or if they currently are. They were living separately, Current said.
The family also thought that the couple had a child with them, though it was later confirmed that there was no child in the car.
When the couple crossed into New Mexico, the San Juan County Sheriff's Office decided to follow them. The top speed of the pursuit was 65 m.p.h.
The couple eventually got about a half-mile ahead of police, according to police scanner traffic. Police then found the vehicle abandoned near a gravel pit in Hart Canyon.
They created a perimeter with help from the U.S. Marshal's Office near a gravel pit, where deputies found the couple's van.
When the couple was found, Levi Diramontes resisted arrest and told the deputies, "F*** you. Go ahead and shoot me," according to Current.
An officer with the San Juan County Sheriff's Office then used a Taser to subdue Levi Diramontes. Crystal Diramontes did not resist.
Levi Diramontes first was transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center because he had sprained his ankle when on foot, running from the vehicle.
