FARMINGTON — In an effort to connect job seekers in the area with employers, San Juan College will host a community job fair Thursday.
Hosted by the college's career center, more than 30 employers from around the county and state will be setup in the college's study lounge from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will be free and open to the public.
Career specialist Holly Caudillo said the businesses at the event will be looking for full-time, part-time, permanent and temporary positions to fill.
"We have a pretty good mix of industries from retail, several health care companies, food services, casinos and military positions," Caudillo said.
Caudillo said the career center hosts a smaller job fair for temporary holiday work in the fall, but the spring job fair is larger and helps students find employment for the summer.
"A lot of students are looking for jobs right now, especially for summer," Caudillo said. "We opened it up to the public because we like to offer all of our services to the community."
Caudillo said the career center recommends everyone who attends the event to "dress for success" and bring current copies of their resume.
To held with updating attendees resumes', the career center is hosting a free resume review clinic today from 1 to 4 p.m. in room 1715.
People interested in having their resume reviewed and critiqued can visit the career center and meet with a career specialist.
At the job fair Thursday, guest speaker from Merrion Oil and Gas, George Sharpe, will be giving a presentation called "The Maze of Life - Where are YOU Headed?" Sharpe will be speaking about topics related to choosing a career path and career choices from 11 a.m. to noon in room 1614.
Caudillo said she enjoys making connections with employers in the community and across the state to help students and job seekers in the area.
"A lot of students are out looking for work right now, and it's something really great to help them out and find a job," Caudillo said.
