AZTEC — Despite the snow and rain in the forecast, the Aztec Boys & Girls Club hopes to see you at the Hiway Grill today for its biggest fundraiser of the year.

The youth organization's 14th annual Harley Raffle will start at noon at the Aztec eatery. The winners of the raffle will be announced at 3 p.m.

The restaurant will keep the gathered hog-hopefuls well fed with beef and green chili enchiladas. For every plate sold, one dollar will go to the club.

The restaurant's seafood special is for the ears -- the blues act Reverend Catfish. According to the group's Facebook page, the band is "the dirtiest damn blues band around."

"We are really excited," said Erin Collins, executive director of the Aztec chapter. "We haven't reached the 3,000-tickets-sold mark yet, but we're hoping for a strong turnout, despite the weather."

Proceeds from the raffle go to support programs and activities at the Aztec Boys & Girls Club.

"The raffle is one of the main reasons we are able to keep our doors open," Collins said. "We rely on donations and fundraisers to maintain our $10 per year membership fee and fund all the programs we run at our main location and our Teen Center."

Programs at the Boys & Girls Club all adhere to the three tenets of the organization -- to prepare kids for academic success, build character and leadership skills, and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Treasurer Mike J. Paschall sees the popularity of the event as an endorsement of the organization's positive work done on behalf of local kids.

"We spend our money wisely," he said, "so we can support our young people with positive experiences that will benefit them all their lives."

Not every club maintains the Aztec chapter's low membership dues, Collins said.

"For every ticket sold, I think of every field trip and activity the kids will get to enjoy," she said. "I hope our community can come out for this fun and exciting event. But bundle up!"

Tickets for the annual Harley Raffle are still available at the Hiway Grill up until the drawing and cost $100 each or three for $250.
