FARMINGTON — A Crownpoint man was sentenced to a day shy of a year in prison for lying to the FBI about a fatal accident he was involved in.
Cody Tsosie, 22, pleaded guilty to making a false report to a law enforcement agency, which is a misdemeanor.
Tsosie told the FBI he was driving on U.S. 491 near Yah-Ta-Hey on Jan. 29, 2011 when he came across a man who had sustained fatal injuries on the road, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales said in a news release.
The man had actually been injured when he fell from the back of Tsosie’s pickup truck while Tsosie was driving at a high rate of speed, Gonzales said.
Tsosie was arrested March 8.
Tsosie will remain free on his conditions of release, which has yet to be scheduled.
He is facing 364 days in prison and a $5,000 fine.
The name of the man who died was not released.
