FARMINGTON — Crisp fall weather means we’re approaching wood-burning season.
Firewood cutting permits are on sale at the Bureau of Land Management Farmington Field Office, 6251 College Boulevard.
The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. The office is closed today for Columbus Day.
Permits will be sold until Dec. 31. The BLM accepts cash, checks and credit or debit cards.
Permits are $12 per cord for firewood cut for personal use and $15 a cord for firewood cut for resale.
Wood chopping is not allowed on all BLM recreation areas.
The penalty for illegally cutting firewood on federal lands is a $300 fine, followed by an additional $50 fine for each additional tree.
