FARMINGTON — Husbands and wives, fathers and daughters, grandfathers and granddaughters and boyfriends and girlfriends are all ready to team up this weekend at Navajo Lake.
The Four Corners Bass Masters' Annual His and Hers Bass Fishing Tournament will be held this Saturday and launches at 7 a.m. from the dock at Navajo Lake's marina.
"We have always had people from Colorado, Utah, Texas, and the Albuquerque and Santa Fe areas come because it is a fun, fun tournament," said Four Corners Bass Masters President Donna Hererra.
The Four Corners Bass Masters is a local bass fishing club that has held the His and Hers Tournament for at least 30 years, Herrera said. They hold roughly six tournaments a year, and are sponsoring The Rolling Thunder and Farmington Fuel baseball teams with the proceeds from the E.H. Queen Memorial Tournament held last month.
This weekend's tournament caters to coed teams.
"It is open to anybody. Anybody can fish as long as they are a guy and girl," said tournament director Billy Dunson. "There is a wide range of people that compete. Some of the best anglers in the region will be teaming up with beginners and some have never fished before, but there is still a lot of competition."
Dunson expects to see 25 to 35 boats on the water ready to compete in the tournament. Each boat will hold one team of two.
Competitors will have seven hour to catch the five biggest large and small mouth bass they can reel in.
Weigh-ins will be held at 2 p.m. when winners will be crowned.
