This is the third year the Sky Ute Casino has been holding its expo, entitled "Bridal and Event Spectacular." Last year, the casino opened its doors to more than 50 vendors and around 300 guests.
Dustin Weaver has been spearheading the effort to put on the expo. He said the Sky Ute expo is unique because it doesn't only focus on weddings. The expo also focuses on event planning for other occasions, such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Weaver said one of the main attractions will be the fashion show. Fashion shows enable brides-to-be to see how the dresses they are interested in look on an actual person, rather than just hanging on a rack or displayed on a mannequin. The shows can also help brides-to-be decide on styles or designers they are interested in. Local vendors will showcase their products during the fashion show, which helps brides-to-be know where to look for their dress.
Like other expos, Weaver said the Sky Ute expo will bring in a variety of vendors, including Occasions Bridal from Durango, Colo., which carries a large selection of unique and up-to-date wedding gowns as well as bridesmaid, prom and special occasions dresses.
Occasions Bridal offers a selection of headpieces, from traditional tiaras to bridal combs and hair pins. The store also provides advice with wedding planning and event details.
Another vendor that will come from Durango to show off at the Sky Ute expo is the Yellow Carrot, which is a catering and custom cake service.
Weaver said Sky Ute's catering staff will be present to "show off what we can do."
There will also be local photographers and other caterers.
Weaver said the expo provides a good opportunity for future couples to come and get ideas. He said the expo also gets quite a few people who come in to get ideas for children's birthday parties.
