Editor:
There was an editorial in your paper a couple of weeks ago about sports rivalries in San Juan County and the lack of support for each other in the Four Corners. I am the Bloomfield girls soccer coach and I received a fantastic call on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 30.
The Piedra Vista girls soccer team had a gift for us for our playoff game on Saturday. They had made a poster to wish our girls good luck and to show their support for us. They also sent a goody bag along with the poster for a little something extra.
Their act exemplifies the oath to Pursue Victory with Honor. Their actions show that we can have a good rivalry on the field, but when the whistle blows to end the game we are all from the same place and we can support each others' efforts and accomplishments.
My athletes and parents were starting to doubt that other schools actually practiced Pursuing Victory with Honor, as emphasized by the NMAA, because of some disappointing experiences during district playoffs. This act goes to show that there are still good people in the world and that they are right here in our own county.
It goes to show that we can battle it out on the field and hope the best for each other at the same time. This is honor, pride and kindness in action, and we were thankful to be on the receiving end of such a great deed.
So, our thanks, appreciation and admiration go out to the Piedra Vista girls soccer team and this is what the people of our community need to
