I'm upset that once again the citizens of San Juan County are robbed of $10,000 to cover portable toilets and police lodging for the 98th Annual Shiprock Navajo Fair.

What does the fair board actually do with the money it receives from operating the fair? How much is actually collected? How much is each fair board member paid? How many of their relatives are on the payroll? You don't ever see the jobs advertised. What does it actually cost to operate the fair? The Ye'ii'-Bi'Chei is all paid by the patient and their families, so there's no cost there; that is free to the fair board.

I am 40 years old and a community member of Shiprock. Nothing has ever changed in regard to this Shiprock Navajo Fair. The same old fair board members, exhibit hall, arts and crafts hall, powwow grounds, Indian market and carnival. The parade has become longer and longer each year; isn't there a set limit of entries?

The gate entry fee to see all these old buildings is $8. Wouldn't you think there would be some improvements by now? Wouldn't you think the fair could have been moved south of Shiprock? Maybe the fair board doesn't know that there's so much unused land out there. Imagine the unlimited availability of parking.

You would think after 98 years of operating a fair the fair board would have the means to cover the expenses of portable toilets and police lodgi
