FARMINGTON — As Farmington Museum director Bart Wilsey was preparing for the Adventure in the Arts exhibit -- a show that will feature famous artists such as Andy Warhol -- he started to wonder how the museum could showcase local artists at the same time.

Then he found a copy of a local booklet called "Handmade: A Guide to the Arts," which lists local artists. He called up Handmade's art director, Michael Bulloch, and proposed a show featuring artists listed in the booklet.

The Handmade Fine Arts Show opened on Friday at the Farmington Museum and will run through Sept. 7. The show Adventure in the Arts will open July 20.

"We kind of just left it up to the artists as to what they wanted to bring in," Wilsey said.

One of his favorite pieces is a watercolor night scene of some buttes.

"I think everybody brought in some of the best of their best," Wilsey said.

Mary MacAdams, a Farmington painter, brought in a painting she did of a countryside in Napflio, a village in Greece.

"It has kind of a restful, serene and peaceful look," MacAdams said.

Napflio is positioned on a hill in the Peloponnesian Peninsula. While on vacation in Greece two years ago, MacAdams took a photograph looking down at Napflio and painted the picture when she returned.

Bulloch, who is a watercolor artist, will also have a painting featured in the show. The painting, entitled "Ready for the Lunch Rush" features a restaurant in Albuquerque. While in college, Bulloch worked next door to the restaurant, and he said he often ate bagels there.

Bulloch said people who aren't familiar with the local arts scene might be surprised at the amount of artistic talent in the Four Corners area.

"It's been real popular with all the artists in the guide," Bulloch said.
