Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond is the definition of a rising star in the NBA, so it was only fitting he dominated the league's Rising Stars Challenge Friday night as part of NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.
Drummond was the game's MVP, scoring 30 points and grabbing 25 rebounds to lead Grant Hill's team to a 142-136 victory over the squad selected by Chris Webber. Drummond's presence was felt from the opening tip, when he scored on the first possession of the game and continually racked up rebounds — sometimes three at a time — and put-backs that padded his stat sheet.
It was a Moses Malone-esque performance.
Drummond, a second-year player out of UConn, is averaging 13 points and 13 rebounds per game this season.
