Daniel Murray, a 30-year-old Farmington man, was killed when he crashed into a coal transport truck just before 7 p.m.
New Mexico State Police responded to the crash.
Murray was traveling north in a Ford F150 truck when he partially drifted into the southbound lane and collided into Reuben Torres, a 37-year-old Cortez man, who was transporting coal south, Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez, a spokesman for the agency, said in an email.
Murray died at the scene and Torres was fine, Gutierrez said.
Murray was not wearing a seat belt.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
