FARMINGTON — Anthony Norberto, 34, was stabbed to death in Farmington on Monday night.

Police said Chavez Charles Martin Jr., of Shiprock, was arrested late Monday night and charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.

A stabbing was reported in a vehicle on 600 Melba Lane shortly after 9 p.m. Police found Norberto in the front passenger seat with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center where he died.

Witnesses in the car said Norberto and Martin got into a fight in the car and Martin pulled a knife and stabbed him multiple times, police said.

Police said Martin got out of the car after the stabbing, threw the knife in nearby weeds and ran away.

He was found later Monday night near a hotel and arrested.
