The Lady Scorpions won the FHS Invite with a 8-1 win in the finals against rival Piedra Vista on Saturday.
"It was very cold and windy today and we are very proud of the way the girls were able to deal with it," said FHS girls' head coach Pat McGrath. "They don't complain and just take care of business."
Molly Merrion won No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over PV's Holly Peterson.
"Merrion had a very good weekend. She is a slow starter and her serve is starting to get some pop and her forehand is starting to become a weapon," McGrath said.
No. 2 singles player Danielle Nguyen defeated Sarah Herrington 6-3, 6-2 while No. 3 singles player Liza-Briody Pavlik defeated Alyx Horrace 6-0, 6-1.
No. 4 Singles Riley Coleman took down Aurora Maes 6-1, 6-1, and Syden Schymacher defeated Ramsey Baker 6-3, 6-2.
PV's lone win came at No. 5 singles with Alyssa Benally defeating Caroline Moss 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles action, Merrion and Nguyen took down Patterson and Horace 6-0, 7-5.
At No. 2 doubles, Briody-Pavlik and Coleman teamed up to defeat Herrington and Baker 7-5, 7-2 while the No. 3 FHS doubles team took down Maes and Lindsey 6-2, 6-0.
Despite the dominant win, McGrath knows his team has room to improve if they want yet another 4A state title.
"We're still not consistent enough, but a lot of that is we have not had the same lineup for any of our events," he said.
"Illness and injuries have made every match an adventure."
The FHS boys also won the FHS Invite with a win over Piedra Vista. The boys took a clean sweep 9-0 over the Panthers.
"The final was much more competitive than the 9-0 score would indicate," said FHS boys' head coach Larry Larson. "There were two three-set matches and most of the sets within each match were hotly contested."
Nathaniel Pavlik won No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 over Sean Barela.
Curtis Hunt defeated Zandeer Halgryn 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.
Hunt and Pavlik teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Barela and Halgryn.
At No. 3 singles, Matt With defeated Colton Howard 6-1, 6-1, while No. 4 single Eli Briody-Pavlik took down Colton Howard 6-1, 6-1.
With and Eli Briody-Pavlik then took down Howard and Austin Denney 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles match.
At No. 4 singles, Eli Briody-Pavlik defeated Brandon Adair 6-0, 5-7 and 7-5.
At No. 5 singles, Malcolm McGrath took down Austin Denney 6-0, 6-0, and No. 6 single Will Hall defeated Austin Evans 6-3, 6-3.
The day concluded when the No. 3 doubles team of McGrath and Hall defeated Kevin Patterson and Adair 6-1, 7-5.
Both squads will be in action in Albuquerque next weekend with matches against Taos, Sandia and West Mesa.
