ALBUQUERQUE (AP) — Albuquerque police fatally shot a man following a two-hour search and chase Tuesday night.

Police Chief Ray Schultz says the shooting occurred as the man ran toward a hotel. He says the man had earlier pointed the gun at officers and was disregarding commands to drop it.

Schultz also says officers feared the man running toward the hotel was a threat to the public.

The man's identity hasn't been released.

Police were searching the area after a woman arrived at a music store and tried to sell or return stolen musical instruments.

According to police, she was arrested but two men with her fled.

Several businesses in the area were locked down while police conducted a search.
