FARMINGTON — A woman who was shot in the stomach by a sheriff’s office deputy last year was convicted of aggravated assault on Thursday.
Donna Peace, 56, was convicted of two fourth-degree felonies for aggravated assault. She had been charged with two third-degree felonies for aggravated assault on a peace officer, Chief Deputy District Attorney Dustin O’Brien said.
Deputies were called to Peace’s home on County Road 3050 in January 2012.
Peace came out of the home with a 9mm pistol. She pointed the gun at two deputies.
Deputy Katie Macsalka fired her weapon three times, hitting Peace in the stomach once. Deputy Emerson Charley was standing next to Macsalka during the shooting.
Macsalka was cleared of any wrongdoing in the shooting. She is now a detective with the sheriff's office.
Peace was not sentenced on Thursday. She remains free on bail pending her sentencing hearing in front of District Judge John Dean.
