Bloomfield hung tough with No. 3 Shiprock in the first half of Tuesday's game at the Chieftain Pit, but the Lady Chieftains cruised past the Lady Bobcats in the second half.
Bloomfield (7-16, 0-5 District 1-3A) scored just seven points in the second half while Shiprock (20-3, 5-0) scored 40 as the Lady Chieftains strolled to a 63-20 victory.
The win locked up the No. 1 seed in the District 1-3A tournament for Shiprock as well as a spot in the 3A state tournament.
"Part of our goal is to win district and all of the tournaments we get into. We are slowly accomplishing those goals one step and one game at a time," said Shiprock head coach Larenson Henderson.
Taylor Henderson led Shiprock with 12 points while Shania Harry had eight and Courtney Steele scored seven.
The entire Shiprock team got in the action Tuesday night, and Henderson was pleased with the balanced scoring.
Shiprock will host Wingate on Friday night in the final game of the regular season.
Aztec 58, Farmington 31
The Aztec girls' basketball team picked up its second District 1-4A win Tuesday, beating Farmington for the second time in the process.
The Lady Tigers (12-13, 2-3 DIstrict 1-4A) eased past the Lady Scorpions (3-19, 0-5) 58-31.
"We hung with them int he first half, but in the second we had nothing going," said FHS head coach Mike Switch. "We only scored 10 points in the second half. Our girls didn't give up, but once again Aztec put pressure defense on us and caused turnovers."
Shayna Carlowe was Farmington's leading scorer in the game with eight points.
Aztec head coach Ben Tensay was unavailable for comment at press time Tuesday.
