FARMINGTON — Church Rock will not be getting the business development facilities is was hoping for.
Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly vetoed $122,000 that would have come out of the tribe's business and industrial development fund and gone toward an incubator and training facilities in Church Rock, according to a Sunday press release from the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President.
Shelly said he could not approve the funding because the tribe could face up to $30 million in budget cuts in March.
Shelly also said it was not an appropriate time to approve the funding because the tribe currently is in a state of emergency due to damaged pipelines that have left 2,000 families on the reservation without water.
