Mozingo, 56, took over in January. He comes to New Mexico after 22 years at the Statesman Journal in Salem, Ore. The Statesman Journal, a Gannett newspaper, outsourced its production to a separate facility, Mozingo said.
Mozingo supervises nearly 20 employees at The Daily Times production facility on north Allen Avenue.
"Each day you've got to put out a new product," he said. "You start every day from the ground up."
Mozingo is leading a project to bring in six new printing units from Vallejo, Calif. Those units are scheduled to be installed in March.
"Our goal is to improve the reproduction quality of the print," he said. "Once we do that, we want to increase our commercial printing."
The press project is a major initiative for The Daily Times, said Publisher John Elchert.
"We've got some units coming in that will help the quality of our product immensely," he said.
Elchert praised Mozingo's experience.
"Mike is a very, very experienced production director and press room supervisor," he said.
Mozingo said he also wants to increase employee training.
Mozingo, who was born and raised in Grants Pass, Ore., is married to his wife of 37 years, Denise. They have two adult children and three grandsons.
When he's not working, Mozingo enjoys motor sports, off-roading in his Jeep and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Mozingo is also an avid fisherman.
