FARMINGTON — The Farmington Fire Department responded to a diesel-fuel spill on Broadway Avenue Thursday morning.
A semi truck spilled an estimated 25 to 50 gallons near 400 East Broadway Ave., Battalion Chief Nick Mrzlak said.
New Mexico and Farmington police closed a section of Broadway from about 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. while the fire department’s Hazmat team cleaned up the spill. The Hazmat team is a special response group within the fire department.
Firefighters used an absorbent material to clear petroleum from the roadways, Mrzlak said.
It was not clear what caused the truck to start spilling fuel.
The fire department did not release the name of the driver. Mrzlak said it was a private vehicle and he did not know if it was affiliated with a local business.
