FARMINGTON — New Mexico State Police said Monday the man fatally shot by a Farmington police officer last week was holding a machete when he was shot.
Farmington officer Jeremy Hill was the first officer to arrive at the home at 517 Leighton Ave. shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, New Mexico State Police announced Monday.
Hill parked his police cruiser several houses away and as he approached the house he heard yelling and items breaking inside, New Mexico police Lt. Robert McDonald said in a news release.
When Hill entered the home he was confronted by Daniel Rey, 33. Rey was allegedly holding a machete when he was shot five times, according to police.
