Kirtland Central scored more points Friday night than it has in any other game all season, a welcome sign to Lady Broncos’ head coach Kevin Holman.
Taylor Billey scored 30 points against Wingate in Kirtland Central’s 72-43 win.
Billey’s 30 points was more than the entire Lady Broncos team has had in four other games this season.
“You can put about four of our games together where we haven’t scored 72,” Holman said. “We definitely put some points on the board. Billey had 30 and didn’t even play the last 10 minutes. She could’ve had 40 tonight.”
Keeshawna Ockerman had another 15 points in the win for Kirtland Central (5-13).
The Lady Broncos were helped by the return of Orquidea Reyes to the lineup after Reyes had missed several weeks.
Wingate had beaten Kirtland Central earlier in the year 51-49 at the Gallup tournament.
“They got us earlier this year, but we knew if we could be aggressive and hit some shots that we could get the win,” Holman said.
The Lady Broncos led by 15 at halftime and quickly go it to a 30-point lead in the second half.
Kirtland Central is back in action this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at home against St. Pius X.
Bloomfield girls beat Aztec

Bloomfield (7-10) defeated Aztec 53-46 at home behind Whitney Charley’s 12 points.
Jeannie Montes added another 10 in the win for the Lady Bobcats.
“We are improving. Tonight was the most complete game we have played,” said Bloomfield head coach Dan Larabee. “Hopefully we can build on it.”
Bloomfield plays again today at Dulce.
Aztec (10-9) is off until Feb. 1 when it begins District 1-4A play against Piedra Vista.
