The workshop will help actors prepare for the upcoming "Grease" auditions, which will take place on Feb. 2. "Grease," put on by Sandstone Productions, will be the group's summer play.
P.J. Gillen, president of production company's board, said the group chose to hold a dance workshop because many actors have no dance training.
The workshop will be led by Lani Dill, a professional choreographer and dancer who has trained throughout the country. Dill owned a dance studio for 15 years. She also directed and choreographed at Birmingham Children's Theater in Birmingham, Ala., which is one of America's largest professional theaters for young adults. Dill currently teaches dance classes at Durango Dance.
Gillen said Dill has worked with Sandstone Productions before. The two of them worked together on last year's "Fiddler on the Roof." Gillen said Dill was the first person who came to her mind when she thought of who would teach the dance workshop.
Gillen said the production company was formed last year as a theater community. In addition to putting on its own productions, Gillen said the company holds monthly workshops to help teach people to be better actors. While the workshops usually are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month, this month's workshop was scheduled for Saturday in order to accomadate Dill's schedule.
The Dance Moves Workshop takes place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Farmington Civic Center, in the stage area. There will be a $5 fee for people who aren't company members. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 505-215-0696 for more information.
Lani Dill teaches an adult musical theater class at Durango Dance on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and encourages anyone interested in the class to contact the studio at 970-749-9881.
