Kenneth Johnson allegedly stabbed Richard Lopez, a 27-year-old Blanco man,and ran him over with his car at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, San Juan County Sheriff's Office Lt. Cory Tanner said.
Lopez was stabbed in his stomach and had multiple cuts to his hands, indicating he was trying to defend himself. He had leg injuries from being run over with a car, Sgt. Dave Hamlin said.
He was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center Tuesday where he was treated and released, Hamlin said.
Johnson was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said Lopez lives with a woman in Bloomfield and the woman's children told their grandfather, Johnson, that Lopez had abused one of the children at the residence, Tanner said.
Investigators found no evidence that Lopez was abusing any of the children, Tanner said.
Johnson arrived at the couple's residence on County Road 5285 southwest of Bloomfield on Tuesday night. When Lopez drove up to the Johnson's vehicle, Johnson allegedly tried to crash his truck into Lopez's vehicle, he said.
Lopez drove into a nearby ditch and when he exited his vehicle Johnson
stabbed him multiple times, Tanner said.
Johnson got back into his vehicle and allegedly ran into Lopez, knocking him into a fence.
He was arrested later Tuesday night by a Bloomfield police officer, Tanner said.
After his arrest Johnson was reportedly having difficulty breathing and he was taken to the hospital. The sheriff's office arrested him Thursday after he was cleared by doctors.
Johnson is being held at the San Juan County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond.
