The play written by Sam and Jeanne Bobrick opens Jan. 26.
"Weekend Comedy" is a glimpse into a hilarious weekend shared by middle-aged married couple Frank and Peggy, and the much younger and unmarried Jill and Tony. Both couples have inadvertently booked the same cabin in upstate New York for a weekend getaway, and much of the comedy centers around the clash between generations and attitudes.
"It's kind-of a comedy of errors," said TEA's General Manager Debbie Doggett. "Both couples wanted a romantic weekend, but after they decide to share the cabin, some very funny things happen."
The play differs dramatically from TEA's last production, "A Streetcar Named Desire," Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning drama fraught with brooding tension, mental instability and tragedy.
"This play is a definite contrast to that, and will be a chance to lighten things up," said Doggett.
This is the third full-length play directed by Thomas LaRue, who has also directed many one-act plays and short film productions.
"The play contains a lot of comedy about the generation gap, and the conflict between the older and younger generation," said LaRue. "We have an absolutely great cast, with Paul Reed and Lori Boettler playing the older couple, and Devin McCormick and Shannon Roberts playing the younger
Coincidentally, LaRue said, Roberts is Boettler's real-life daughter.
"Because it's only these two couples, the play takes place in this very intimate, isolated little world, and is a great, funny show," LaRue said, adding that the play does contain some mild mature language.
TEA continues its season in May with the production of "God of Carnage."
