FARMINGTON — A winter weather advisory was issued for Farmington on Monday morning.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued the advisory at 9:30 a.m. Monday and the advisory is expected to be in effect until midnight.

Forecasters predict cold weather and snow to blanket northwestern and central New Mexico today and tonight, according to the advisory.

The weather service is forecasting for 1-2 inches of snow in northwestern New Mexico and up to 4 inches of snowfall in the San Juan Mountains on Monday.

Snow started falling in Farmington Monday morning and it is expected to continue throughout the day into the evening.

Snow packed or icy roads with poor visibility can be expected throughout the day in Farmington, according to the advisory.

Farmington police Lt. Taft Tracy said there were several minor traffic crashes reported Monday morning but no one was seriously injured.
