Only two Scorps emerged victorious in their matches — Champ Mendoza and Tierney Staley.
"We're just going to have to figure out how to step up and toughen up on the wrestling mat," said FHS assistant coach Jay Boushee.
Mendoza scored the first of the Scorps' two wins, pinning Garrett Marcum of Durango in the 145-pound match.
"Champ has been out a month for various reasons and looked live on the wrestling mat," Boushee said. "He had to make good fundamental wrestling moves and that's what he did. He's as good as anyone in our room technically."
Staley also won via fall, defeating Kenny Molina in the 160-pound match.
"He's been wrestling really well this year," Boushee said. "He came out and won in Dove Creek and finished fourth in Carlsbad, wrestling solid competition."
Next up, FHS will be at the Kirtland Central invite where Boushee hopes losses to Durango will be an "eye-opener" for some members of the team.
"We have to hope tonight was a learning experience and hope the kids learn," he said. "Physically were ready. It's about what they're ready to do mentally."
