Anthony Gus, 24, was arrested after a standoff with law enforcement in Crownpoint, state police said.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police were called to a residence in Crownpoint after an armed subject was reported to police, New Mexico police Lt. Robert McDonald said in a news release.

The call stemmed from a fight between Gus and his girlfriend, who fled from the residence and called police.

During the standoff, Gus was texting his girlfriend telling her she was about to witness the world’s greatest gun battle and that he was going to kill a cop, McDonald said.

Negotiators were able to talk him out of the residence and he was taken into custody, he said.

He turned over to Navajo police and FBI investigators, he said.
