FARMINGTON — Farmington Police officers have arrested two juvenile male suspects in relation to vandalism at Tibbetts Middle School and Farmington High School on Sunday morning.
School Resource Officer Andreas Aikele said two 17-year old males have been arrested for breaking into both schools early Sunday morning and causing damage to equipment and fixtures. Both suspects have been charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of criminal damage to property. Police did not release the names of the subjects Tuesday afternoon.
They are currently being held in the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center.
Farmington High's main gymnasium and cafeteria were extensively damaged, and many trophy and memorabilia cases were broken in the gym lobby. Several sets of mechanical blinds and curtains in the cafeteria were torn down and water faucets were left running, flooding the cafeteria floor.
One male suspect was picked up at his place of employment and allegedly confessed his role in the crimes to police officers.
Aikele said the suspect helped officers identify the second suspect, who lives in a Colorado town near the New Mexico state border.
