On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Dine Chirstian Center will be holding a Christmas concert at the Old Shiprock Chapter house. There will be hot chocolate and kids are encouraged to dress traditionally. The concert will start at 6 p.m. each day.
On Saturday, the Solid Rock Outreach and Promotions is holding "An Evening with the Kinlichiiniis" and Navajo Ministries is presenting a live nativity scene featuring children from the Four Corners Home for Children.
"An Evening with the Kinlichiiniis" will start at 5:00 p.m. at the Shiprock Community Chapter Building and will last until 11:00 p.m. The evening will consist of Blues, Country, Rock and Navajo Christmas music. The singers will include Divine Destiny, Martin Whiteeagle, Guilty Wilson, Ray Begaye, Jandice Montoya, Candace Valdez and the Dine Baptist Choir.
Andrew F. Begaye will also be speaking and there will be free goodies after the service.
The live Nativity scene is an annual event put on by Navajo Ministries for the last 28 years. It takes place behind the Four Corners Home for Children located at 2103 W Main St. in Farmington from 6 until 8 p.m..
The Nativity scene will have llamas, sheep, horses, goats and donkeys from the Navajo Ministries ranch and a real baby will play the part of Jesus.
The event is free, however Jim Baker, the
Baker said the Navajo Ministries has never had to cancel the event, despite bad weather conditions. Even when its snowing, Baker said the children don't seem to mind the weather.
In addition to the Nativity scene, Baker said there will be over 500 luminarias and, at the end of the drive, there will be choirs in a gazebo area.
