FARMINGTON — A feral cat colony kept near the city's Municipal Operations Center went without food for one week according to Humane Society of the Four Corners Board Members.
Bus drivers near the center reported that the cats were being caught and euthanized, said society spay and neuter program director Traci Fletcher.
The society entered in to an agreement with the city of Farmington to put the cats in their Trap, Neuter and Release program, and to feed and shelter the cats until a solution was agreed upon.
As of Oct. 1, however, caretakers were ordered to stop feeding the cats following complaints from Municipal Operations Center staff, Fletcher said.
The cats were fed this morning after an agreement was reached at Tuesday evening's City Council meeting.
Humane Society of the Four Corners Board Members will meet with Mayor Tommy Roberts, City Manager Rob Mayes and Assistant City Manager Bob Campbell on Oct. 19 to work on a solution for the cats.
