The Eddy-Lea Energy Alliance includes the Eddy and Lea County governments and the cities of Carlsbad and Hobbs. It was formed in 2006 to convince the U.S. Department of Energy that it should consider a site in this area for proposed integrated nuclear fuel reprocessing facility.
The alliance partnered with French nuclear firm Areva this week to promote a nuclear power plant waste storage site.
The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that alliance treasurer and Eddy County Commissioner Jack Volpato says the state auditor issued its opinion on the need for audits last month. Volpato says there's been no wrong-doing on the organization's part.
