Shiprock man to serve three years in prison for kicking woman in face

FARMINGTON — A Shiprock man will serve three years in prison for kicking a woman in the face.

Torvold Kellywood, 46, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon in federal court in Albuquerque on Friday morning, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales said in a press release.

Kellywood admitted in court that he kicked a woman in the face and caused a four-inch laceration above her eye that required medical attention, Gonzales said.

The incident happened on Dec. 14, 2011.

Kellywood has been in federal custody since May 24, 2012.
