FARMINGTON — Two construction workers died Wednesday after they were struck by an RV while working on a road project on I-40 near Gallup.
At about 9:30 a.m. an RV traveling west on I-40 swerved into the median and struck three Valley Fence Company employees who were preparing to start work, New Mexico State Police Lt. Robert McDonald said in a news release.
One of the workers was pronounced dead at the scene. Two workers were transported to a hospital in Gallup and one of them died as a result of his injuries.
One lane of I-40 was closed in each direction is closed, McDonald said.
New Mexico State Police and the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau are investigating the crash.
The names of the workers and the RV driver were not released Wednesday afternoon.
