FARMINGTON — A man is dead after a shootout with police at a gas station in Dulce.
New Mexico State Police said Jicarilla Tribal Police responded the 64-Express Gas Station in Dulce at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday.
A tall, thin man in a blue jacket carrying a rifle had reportedly broken into the business, New Mexico State Police said in a press release.
The suspect allegedly fired shots at state and tribal police officers.
At 11:45 a.m. police sent a remote robot into the building and confirmed the suspect was shot dead. The release did not say if the suspect was shot by police or if it was suicide.
His name has not yet been released.
No one else was injured during the shootout but four police vehicles were shot.
Tactical teams from state police and the San Juan County Sheriff's Office, tribal police and FBI resources responded to the emergency.
