ALBUQUERQUE – Former prisoners of war from World War II, Korea and Vietnam and their families will be the guests of a special ceremony April 4 at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center, 1501 San Pedro Drive SE.
The annual Former Prisoner of War Recognition Ceremony runs from 11 a.m. to noon April 4 in the Education Building auditorium. The guest speaker is Colonel Steven B. Reese, Commander of the 377th Medical Group, Kirtland Air Force Base.
The program celebrates Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, observed nationally April 9. Since World War I, more than 142,000 Americans, including 85 women, have been captured and interned as POWs. Not included in this figure are nearly 93,000 Americans who were lost or never recovered.
