BLOOMFIELD — The Bloomfield City Council plans to address the replacement for Municipal Judge Edward Wood at its meeting Monday.

Wood submitted a letter of resignation to Mayor Scott Eckstein on Oct. 26. The letter stated no reason for the action.

"At this time, we'll accept the resignation of the judge, but we're not going to appoint anyone to take his place," City Manager Keith Johnson said.

Wood's resignation is effective Dec. 31.

The Council plans to pass a resolution adding the municipal judge post to the March 2 elections because there was more than two years left in Wood's term. The city's alternate judge, Marlon Maloy, temporarily will take over the position in the transition. The city clerk can fill in as alternate judge in an extreme emergency during the two months until the election.

The newly elected judge then will have the duties for a full four-year term.

"I think that's the fairest way to go," Eckstein said. "It's the fairest for everyone to let the people elect the replacement for Judge Wood for a four-year term."

Voters will decide on the municipal judge, mayor and two council members in the spring elections.

The City Council also will vote on whether to allow Sterela Wireless, a wireless phone company, to place a cell tower on one of the city's water tanks.

The agreement will net the city an additional $1,000 a month.

Councilors also will consider at Monday's meeting approving a resolution which certifies the city
