I am writing on behalf of the Humane Society of the Four Corners, or HS4C, a local 501(c)3 animal assistance organization, and also the gracious recipient of a $5,000 grant from Conoco-Phillips.

This grant from Conoco-Phillips will allow us to continue to provide HS4C's low-cost spay-and-neuter program to the community, which is even more important in these hard economic times. ConocoPhillips is to be commended for their dedication in ending the overpopulation of animals in the Four Corners.

Everyone is struggling to make ends meet, and doing good just to keep food on their tables. Unfortunately, this has a direct effect on the number of animals being spayed and neutered. Unsterilized animals allow the cycle to continue, resulting in more animals being euthanized in our local shelters. HS4C has been diligent in its mission to reduce the high euthanasia rate, currently over 12,000 puppies and kittens every year. These abandoned and defenseless animals enter the shelters injured, starving and terrified.

HS4C is proud to work closely with premier staff at the Aztec Animal Care and Control Center, aka Aztec Animal Shelter, and Tina Roper, shelter director. These individuals work hard every day to ensure these babies receive the food, care and love that they so deserve.

We are extremely grateful to the Four Corners Community and its continued support of our organization and the HS4C Thrift store, located at 215 W. Main St. in Farmington. Without the

support of our compassionate community, animals would have to suffer in silence. Now they have hope for a better tomorrow.
